Dr Long is a cross-disciplinary chemist in the fields of analytical chemistry, materials science, and nanoscience. He conducted impactful research, collaborated with diverse teams, and published in top-tier journals for 10 years. He specializes in lipid bilayers and vesicles, polymers, colloids, nanoparticles, and surface and interface science.
Dr Long has published 5 peer-reviewed articles, 4 as first-author, in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Analytical Chemistry. He has presented at 3 international and 2 regional conferences (1 as a speaker).
Editing and Reviewing Experience
Dr Long has been an editor, both freelance and salaried, since 2012. He has proofread, copyedited, and rewritten many hundreds of academic research papers, and numerous grant applications (including institutional, national, and multi-investigator research proposals). He is comfortable editing documents that fall somewhat outside his direct areas of specialization; for example, in agriculture, optics, and environmental science. Dr Long joined Edanz Group as a freelance editor in 2020.
Dr Long has written thousands of online assessment questions, largely in chemistry, biology, and auditing. He has written alt-text across math and science fields, including 4 book-length projects (evolutionary biology, genetics, general statistics, and business statistics). He has also written over 40 short, lay-audience science articles for local newsletters (in 2008, some of this writing earned him a place as a finalist for a national award from American Mensa). He is a science writer, and has no medical writing experience.
